iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 & Siri AI: Release Dates, Supported Devices, and Everything You Need to Know

iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 & Siri AI: Release Dates, Supported Devices, and Everything You Need to Know

Apple officially unveiled iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and its next-generation Siri AI during WWDC 2026. As exciting as the announcements were, most Apple users are asking two important questions: when can I download the update, and will my device support the new AI features?

The answer is not as simple as whether your iPhone supports iOS 27. Apple has introduced multiple levels of compatibility, especially for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features. Some devices can run iOS 27 but will not receive advanced AI capabilities.

Here is a complete breakdown of release timelines, supported devices, Apple Intelligence requirements, and Siri AI compatibility.

When Will iOS 27 Be Available?

Developer Beta

Apple has already released the first developer beta immediately after WWDC 2026, following its usual release strategy. Developers enrolled in Apple’s developer program can install and test the new software right away.

Public Beta Release

Looking at Apple’s recent release history, iOS 18 Public Beta launched on July 15, 2024, and iOS 26 Public Beta launched on July 24, 2025. Based on these patterns, the iOS 27 Public Beta will likely arrive between mid-July and late July 2026.

Final Public Release

Apple traditionally launches major operating system updates shortly before new iPhone models. Following the trend of iOS 18 launching September 16, 2024 and iOS 26 launching September 15, 2025, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 will most likely become available in September 2026.

Which iPhones Support iOS 27?

According to Apple’s compatibility information, iOS 27 supports:

  • iPhone 11 Series
  • iPhone 12 Series
  • iPhone 13 Series
  • iPhone 14 Series
  • iPhone 15 Series
  • iPhone 16 Series
  • iPhone 17 Series
  • iPhone Air
  • iPhone SE (2nd Generation and newer)

Devices released as far back as 2019 can still receive Apple’s latest operating system.

iOS 27 Support Does Not Mean Siri AI Support

This is where things become more complicated. A device may support iOS 27 but still miss out on Apple Intelligence and advanced Siri AI features.

Apple Intelligence is currently available only on:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • All iPhone 16 models
  • All iPhone 17 models
  • iPhone Air

If you own an iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, standard iPhone 15, or iPhone 15 Plus, you can install iOS 27 but will not receive the new Apple Intelligence features or the upgraded Siri AI experience.

This distinction is likely to confuse many users because software compatibility and AI compatibility are now two separate categories.

The Third Tier: Advanced Siri AI Features

Apple has introduced an even higher level of AI functionality. Some of Siri’s most advanced capabilities require Apple’s newest on-device AI model.

These premium features require:

iPhone Requirements

  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
  • iPhone Air
  • Minimum 12GB RAM

iPad Requirements

  • M4 chip or newer
  • Minimum 12GB RAM

Mac Requirements

  • M3 chip or newer
  • Minimum 12GB unified memory

Vision Pro Requirements

  • M5 version of Vision Pro

These devices will gain access to the most powerful AI experiences, including more natural Siri conversations, improved voice recognition, advanced on-device AI processing, enhanced dictation features, and faster AI responses without cloud dependence.

Even devices that support Apple Intelligence may not receive every Siri AI feature if they lack sufficient memory or processing power. For a deeper look at what the new Siri can do, check out our coverage of Siri AI at WWDC 2026.

iPadOS 27 Compatibility Explained

Apple Intelligence works on iPads with M-series chips and the iPad mini with A17 Pro. Older A-series iPads, including models powered by A14 or A16 chips, are expected to miss out on many AI capabilities.

For the most powerful Siri AI features, users will need an M4 iPad Air or newer, M4 iPad Pro or newer, or M5 iPad Pro, with at least 12GB RAM.

macOS 27 Compatibility and Siri AI

Most Apple Silicon Macs can access Apple Intelligence, including M1, M2, M3, and newer models. To unlock the most powerful Siri AI experience, your Mac must have an M3 processor or newer with at least 12GB unified memory.

Some older Apple Silicon Macs may support Apple Intelligence but will not gain access to every advanced Siri feature. Even some powerful older machines with large amounts of RAM may not qualify if they do not use the required M3-generation architecture.

What About Europe and China?

Regional availability adds another layer of complexity. Apple has indicated that some Siri AI features may not launch immediately in European Union countries and China. Even if your hardware meets all requirements, certain AI functions may remain unavailable depending on local regulations and regional rollout plans.

This restriction specifically affects EU member countries rather than all European nations. For example, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Norway are not affected by EU-specific restrictions.

The Three Levels of Apple’s New Ecosystem

  • Level 1: iOS 27 Compatibility — Devices can install and run iOS 27.
  • Level 2: Apple Intelligence Compatibility — Devices gain access to Apple’s AI-powered features.
  • Level 3: Advanced Siri AI Compatibility — Devices receive Apple’s most powerful on-device AI model and premium Siri experience.

Understanding these three categories helps explain why some users may receive the latest software but not every feature shown during WWDC. For a full overview of everything Apple announced this year, see our WWDC 2026 hardware roundup.

Final Thoughts

Apple’s software ecosystem has never been more powerful, but it has also become more complex. The good news is that iPhone 11 users and newer devices continue to receive major operating system updates. The challenge is that AI features now depend heavily on hardware specifications, memory requirements, and regional availability.

As Apple continues pushing artificial intelligence deeper into its ecosystem, device compatibility will likely become less about software versions and more about AI-ready hardware. If you are planning an upgrade in 2026, checking AI compatibility may be just as important as checking iOS compatibility.
